Beef Breakdown: There are lots of similarities between the personal arcs of Shaquille O’Neal and Dwight Howard. There are also lots and lots of differences, from their team accomplishments to their styles of play to their personalities. Weirdly, both the ways in which Dwight and Shaq are the same and the ways in which they aren’t have helped fuel a very weird, very long, very dumb beef.
Best Known For: Superman. Or, Supermen? They both love the man of steel but this common interest turned into fuel for their feud.
(6) Chris Webber vs. Jalen Rose
Beef Breakdown: The “Fab Five” legacy is complicated, in large part because of Chris Webber’s mistakes. That fact has fueled decades of beef between the former best friends. Webber has come across as sensitive and standoffish about his past, while Rose has perhaps been too aggressive in pushing Webber to apologize for his past. This beef between them has showed in TV programs, documentaries, and books, and it’s only gotten worse.
Best Known For: Webber called a timeout that Michigan didn’t have and it’s all been downhill ever since (I mean, they’re individually doing great, but y’know, in beef terms).
Matchup Prediction: This is another tough one. On paper, Shaq vs. Dwight feels like it could be the runaway winner by name power alone. But, it’s NCAA Tournament time, which could help give the 6-seeded Rose vs. Webber an unexpected edge. If you’re going to bet, bet on the big guys standing strong from the 3-seed.
