That's seven straight in a row for Sampdoria -- seven straight losses, that is. Not the best record, particularly for a side just coming back into Serie A. Remember when everyone thought they'd be great after an opening round win over AC Milan? Yeah, I bet Samp wishes that were true as well.
Palermo vs. Sampdoria: Final score 2-0 as Palermo get second win of season
Paulo Dybala scored a brace as the 18-year-old lead the rosanero to victory in Sicily.
Anyway. Sampdoria's loss is Palermo's gain, as the rosanero finally find their first win since September 30. Absent wins from Chievo Verona against Udinese, Genoa against Napoli and Bologna against Torino, they'll stay safe through the week. Presumably, so will Gian Piero Gasperini, although you never can tell when Maurizio Zamparini is involved.
And it's all thanks to their young wonderkid, Paulo Dybala. Palermo's most expensive signing ever, La Joya stepped up after Fabrizio Miccoli was ruled out with injury. In true rosanero fashion, the Argentine flubbed his first attempt, dragging his shot wide.
But the 18-year-old made up for it by scoring a brace in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Franco Brienza pulled the ball back to set up Dybala, who made no mistake when placing his shot into the top corner. His second came twenty minutes later, through his own skillful work. The youngster sprung the offside trap, spun, and this time sent the ball into the far corner.
In a season in which Palermo haven’t had much to smile about, it looks as though Dybala will finally give them a reason.
