Juventus will miss Gigi Buffon and Mirko Vucinic against Napoli

Gigi Buffon has a thigh strain and Mirko Vucinic a fever. Both will miss out on Saturday’s match.

On Saturday, Juventus take on Napoli, with whom they share the top of the Serie A table. But they'll do it without their first choice goalkeeper and captain, Gianluigi Buffon. They'll also be missing Mirko Vucinic, who has featured in every match for the Old Lady thus far this season.

Buffon picked up a thigh strain while on international duty, and was forced to miss Italy's match against Denmark. Rumors persisted that the keeper was shirking his azzurri role in order to play against Napoli, but the injury turned out to be serious enough that Marco Storari will be forced to deputize.

Vucinic, meanwhile, picked up some sort of fever while away in Ukraine with the Montengro side, and has been left off the list of available Juve players. Last season his illness would have meant little to the bianconeri, as Vucinic tended to frustrate more than inspire. But although the forward has just two goals thus far, his performances have shown marked improvement, and he’s been the top choice to start up front.

Instead it will almost certainly be Sebastian Giovinco, but alongside whom? When paired with Fabio Quagliarella against Fiorentina, the results were almost comical. Alessandro Matri has fallen out of favor. Nicklas Bendtner has played just 11 minutes, against Chievo Verona. Juventus might give Matri the nod, if only due to the lack of chemistry between Quags and Giovinco.
