It what was easily one of the worst advertisements for MLS in the league’s history, the Kansas City Wizards dropped a 1-0 decision to the New England Revolution in a match that was played in front of a sparse crowd, on a field that was full of very clear gridiron lines and in a style that more closely resembled a rugby match than soccer.

Shalrie Joseph’s 31st minute strike was the only goal of the game and the second half devolved into a physical affair with the referee unwilling to take control of the match.
Teal Bunburry hit the post in the second half, but the Wizards never really threatened for the final 20 minutes.
The loss clinches a playoff berth for the Rapids and fills out the eight-team playoff bracket.
