There was little reason to pay attention to the season finale for Toronto FC and DC United except for the chance to see Jaime Moreno play his final game in black.
MLS Final Week: Jaime Moreno Retakes All-Time Goals Scored Lead
And as he has so many times, Moreno delivered just what his fans were looking for. Moreno scored on a penalty in the 39th minute to give him 133 goals in his MLS career, at least temporarily reclaiming the all-time lead from Jeff Cunningham. Moreno also drew the penalty, firing a cross off the outstretched arm of TFC’s Julian de Guzman.
The goal was Moreno’s second of the season, as he’s been reduced to a bench player at 36 years old.
DC United is almost a lock to end the season as the lowest scoring team in MLS history, now sitting at 21 for the season and needing four more to tie the 2007 Toronto FC side that scored 25 in their inaugural season.
Santino Quaranta gave United an early lead, scoring in the second minute. The Reds equalized in the 23rd minute on a Maicon Santos strike from the top corner of the penalty area.
