Omar Cummings continued his impressive recent form, scoring in the 17th minute to give the Colorado Rapids an early lead over Supporters’ Shield seeking Real Salt Lake.
MLS Final Week: Omar Cummings Deals Blow To Real Salt Lake’s Supporters’ Shield Ambitions
Cummings goal, which came on a delivery from Marvell Wynne, was his ninth in his past nine matches. He now has 14 for the season and appears to be almost unstoppable since being paired with Conor Casey at forward, as opposed to playing on the wing in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Real Salt Lake needs at least a tie to force the Los Angeles Galaxy to get a result in their season finale tomorrow.
The Rapids could move into the No. 4 seed in the West with a victory.
Another team “fighting” for that No. 4 spot is the San Jose Earthquakes, who started the second half trailing the Kansas City Wizards. Biriahim Dip scored a 36th minute goal for the Wizards to give them a 1-0 lead.
- Dwayne DeRosario scored a pair of second half goals to give Toronto FC a 3-2 win to close out their season. DeRosario's strikes ruined what otherwise would have been a near-perfect finish to Jaime Moreno's final game with DC United. The 36-year-old scored his 133rd goal of his career earlier in the match, which gave United the lead and put him back in front of Jeff Cunningham for the all-time lead in MLS.
