New York Red Bulls 1-0 San Jose Earthquakes: Lindpere Strikes
The deadlock has finally been broken in the 55th minute as Joel Lindpere has put his Red Bulls side up 1-0 on the road against the San Jose Earthquakes. After a first half that was rather lacking in action, Lindpere has finally spiced up the match with a fine left footed strike.
The move was started with a cross into the box by Juan Pablo Angel that was poorly cleared by Brandon McDonald. The ball fell to Lindpere who made space for himself in the box and struck with his left foot, beating Jon Busch at his far post. It was a good finish by the Estonian international, but exceptionally poor defending by the Quakes.

After a couple decent San Jose chances, the best of which was when Geovanni was in alone on a tight angle and put his shot in the side netting, the match turned into a bore. Both sides struggled to maintain possession and any forays into the attacking third resulted in a poor pass or cross.

The second leg will be played on Nov. 6 at Rio Tinto Stadium where RSL has a 25-match MLS unbeaten streak and has lost just two times in the last three seasons.
