The deadlock has finally been broken in the 55th minute as Joel Lindpere has put his Red Bulls side up 1-0 on the road against the San Jose Earthquakes. After a first half that was rather lacking in action, Lindpere has finally spiced up the match with a fine left footed strike.
New York Red Bulls 1-0 San Jose Earthquakes: Lindpere Strikes
The move was started with a cross into the box by Juan Pablo Angel that was poorly cleared by Brandon McDonald. The ball fell to Lindpere who made space for himself in the box and struck with his left foot, beating Jon Busch at his far post. It was a good finish by the Estonian international, but exceptionally poor defending by the Quakes.
The goal was especially welcome for New York, who are lacking attacking options off the bench and therefore, relatively unable to change the game in that way. San Jose will feel like they can hardly afford to head to Red Bull Arena with a deficit and are likely to consider some attacking changes.
