Quaretaro have a surprise lead on Pumas while Cruz Azul are having trouble getting over their hangover after a big win over Monterrey in the early games in Mexico.
Cruz Azul 0-0 Puebla, Quaretaro 1-0 Pumas de la UNAM: Halftime Updates
The goal came for Los Gallos Blancos in the 24th minute through a Sergio Blanco close-range header. Sergio Orteman hit the cross for Blanco from the left hand side and Quaretaro’s clinical finisher made no mistake about it, notching his eighth goal of the season. Since the goal, Pumas have pushed aggressively for the equalizer and created a number of shots, but no equalizer. Winger Jehu Chiapas has looked exceptionally dangerous.
At Estadio Azul, the home team has been disappointing in the first half, going into the locker room knotted up at 0-0 against Puebla. The surging runs and set piece deliveries of Chaco Gimenez have provided the best opportunities, but Cruz Azul are yet to create anything clear-cut. After the effort put in and the emotional high attached to the big mid-week win over Monterrey, it’s not surprising that they’ve had a bit of a let down.
