Everton struggled to overcome visiting Stoke City at Goodison Park, but eventually beat Asmir Begovic thanks to Yakubu’’s second-half goal, scored shortly after Tim Cahill had rattled the post. Although Everton failed to offer much on attack, they shut down Stoke without too many problems. Goalkeeper Tim Howard, uncharacteristically unreliable so far this season, had little to do throughout the match as the visitors displayed no threat whatsoever in front of goal.
Yakubu Scores For Everton As The Toffees Beat Stoke City 1-0
To be honest I though the goal would never come. Stoke arrived determined to play for a point. They used every tactic in the book, niggly fouls, slow free kicks and throw ins, all to waste time and slow the game down. Faced with a wall of defending we lacked the creativity and incisiveness to break them down, something we will have to rectify as Stoke wont [sic] be the last team to come to Goodison and do that this season.
