Wolverhampton Wanderers Defeat Manchester City 2-1; Wolves Remain In Relegation Zone
Wolverhampton condemned Manchester City to a shock defeat at Molineaux, winning 2-1 in an extremely open game. Roberto Mancini was forced to do without star striker Carlos Tevez, who was absent with a thigh injury. City have often been accused of being a one-man team, a stance which backed up by their play this weekend:
...the absence of Tevez became even more stark as game wore on. Time and again, the Argentinian has rescued points and won games, but without him on the pitch it was not just the fans who sensed a way back into the game was unlikely. As much as the side boasts undoubted quality, the feeling is that he is an irreplaceable feature of the side.
Despite Emmanuel Adebayor converting a penalty to put City ahead 1-0, they quickly caved under intense Wolves pressure and never looked like salvaging the game after David Edwards put the hosts ahead in the 57th minute.
