Manchester United Beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 Amidst A Controversial Nani Goal

Manchester United picked up three points on Saturday to remain third in the league, but the Red Devils' second goal is what Tottenham Hotspur players will remember when they think about the 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford. Nani clearly handled the ball in the box, and with the linesman waving his flag, Spurs keeper Gomes thought that his team had been awarded a free kick. However, referee Mark Clattenburg had never blown the whistle. When Gomes set the ball down and backed up a couple places, Nani swooped in, took the ball and put it in the empty net. The Busby Babe weighs in on the controversy:

While this will dominate the headlines for the next couple of days, it should be noted that you ALWAYS PLAY TO THE WHISTLE. You are coached that in nearly every sport from day one. Gomes should have never assumed he was being given the free kick and in any case should have never set the ball on the ground with an opponent behind him.
