UEFA Champions League Preview: Bursaspor v Manchester United
Manchester United sit a top of Group C with seven points as they travel to Turkey to face Turkish Super League Champions Bursaspor who sit bottom without a point or goal scored. United, seeking three points in the group to gain the often times magical number of 10 points needed to advance, will be without striker Wayne Rooney and defender Rio Ferdinand among others as they face a hostile crowd in Bursa.
Sir Alex Ferguson is preaching caution and respect to his United players as he readies his squad against what's sure to be a hungry side looking to prove themselves against one of Europe's big boys. Although Bursaspor has little chance of qualifying to the round of 16, they've yet to be mathematically eliminated and disrupting United's plans of easy qualification would suite them just fine.
Chris Smalling, purchased from Fulham last year, will likely get the start in central defense while Javier Hernandez should see action, either from the start or off the bench for United. Portuguese midfielder Nani scored the winner against Bursaspor two weeks ago at Old Trafford in minute seven. He's also one of a few United players currently in form and will look to continue his impressive season on Tuesday.
For Bursaspor, Milan Stepanov and Ali Tandogan will be in contention as they've both recovered from injuries sustained at Old Trafford two weeks ago. Ivan Ergic scored Bursaspor's only goal in a 1-1 draw on Friday against Fenerbahce which means Bursaspor have won only one match in their last six in all competitions.
