UEFA Champions League: Tottenham Hotspur v Internazionale
Tottenham Hotspur welcome last year’s champions, Inter Milan, to London for what could be the biggest match ever to occur at White Hart Lane:
There have been some huge games at White Hart Lane before, obviously. There have been some truly spectacular North London Derbies. I wasn't alive and following football in 1951 or 1961, but the runs to the title must have been something special. Last year's win over Chelsea was certainly in the running for biggest games ever at the Lane. However, this might top them all. The UEFA Champions League is a different level, and Inter Milan are the defending champions. We sit in second place in our group and we control our own destiny. This might be the biggest game in the history of White Hart Lane.
Spurs fell 4-3 to Inter at the San Siro two weeks ago, but that match may as well have been advertised as "Inter Milan v Gareth Bale," considering the Tottenham forward's second half hat-trick. Spurs will likely need to rely on more than just Bale if they want a victory over Group A leaders Inter. Fortunately for the home side, both goalkeeper Júlio César and midfielder Esteban Cambiasso are almost certain to miss the match in London. With weakened opposition, perhaps this might not just be the biggest match ever to occur at White Hart Lane, but also the biggest victory.
