Sounder At Heart: Pleased With List Of Protected Players
The Sounders were among the active teams yesterday, dealing away veteran midfielder Peter Vagenas to the Colorado Rapids in exchange for a pair of players that occupy international roster slots: defenders Julian Baudet and Danny Earls.
In terms of salaries, the Rapids cleared some room — perhaps clearing space to make some big additions in the offseason — as they came out with nearly $100,000 more in cap space than they had at the start of the day.
Sounder at Heart's Dave Clark didn't seem particularly bothered by the added salaries, as he sees Baudet as a potential replacement for Tyrone Marshall and the real key to the deal being the potential of 21-year-old Earls.
More than the trade, what really put a smile on Clark's face was the inclusion of Mike Fucito on the protected list.
The Nyassi v Fucito debate has happened so often on this site that I don’t know what else to say besides this: I couldn’t be more excited by the decision. While Sanna may become a good player, Fucito clearly is right now. If that knee injury hadn’t ripped out half the season Fucito would have been in the 1500-2000 minute range playing as a WF, LW and RW instead of Nyassi, Levesque, Noonan while spelling Zakuani and Montero. I think he’s capable of a 9+ Goal, 4+ Assist numbers, if not more.
