It was a tough act to follow, but the morning’s Bolton-Tottenham match is looking as much precursor as outlier. Entertaining and close matches around the Premier League’s six 11:00 a.m. Eastern time starts sees all possible outcomes in play going into the last 45 minutes.
English Premier League Halftime Update: Manchester United, Aston Villa, Sunderland Hold Halftime Leads
Here’s your halftime round-up:
Manchester United 1, Wolverhampton Wanderers 0 - I surprisingly well-contested affair has seen open moments but few tests of the goal keepers. In that way, it's becoming the type of Manchester United match we've come to expect, even if there was an unexpected start (and substitution). Would you know it? Ji-Sung Park had that breakthrough moments before half.
Fulham 0, Aston Villa 1- A moment of brilliance from Barry Bannan (long ball) and Marc Albrighton (brilliant touch and finish) is all the separates the sides at Craven Cottage. Villans: your scoreless drought is now over.
Sunderland 1, Stoke City 0 - Asamoah Gyan started. Tuncay Sanli finally started. Only one of those moves has payed off, with the Black Cats continuing their strong play at the Stadium of Light.
Birmingham City 0, West Ham United 0 - Brum is sitting back, waiting for West Ham to come to them, a really strange idea against a team deep in attackers, thin in midfield. As a result, the Hammers have looked the more capable side.
Blackburn 0, Wigan Athletic 0 - Wigan Athletic had a goal called back around the 35 minute mark, the closest either side has come to scoring. As expected, Blackburn is having trouble with Wigan's movement at those moments the match opens up, with a beautiful Wigan counter in the 38th minute giving Blackburn reason to worry.
