Blackburn and Wigan have traded goals at Ewood Park, keeping the home team in front 2-1. Jason Roberts, shortly after Morten Gamst Pedersen's opener, gave Blackburn a two goal lead, but a Charles N'Zogbia direct kick has renewed Latic hopes.
Blackburn Rovers 2-1 Wigan Athletic: Controversial Jason Roberts Goal Pulled Back By Charles N’Zogbia
The rare Roberts goal came in the 67th minute, eight minutes after Pedersen's spectacular goal open the Rovers' account. It was not without controversy, though, with Roberts seemingly offside at the point Brett Emerton played a low cross into the Wigan area. Roberts had only to redirect it home for Blackburn's second goal.
Though you can never be too certain about close offside calls, camera angles often distorting what an assistant referee would see on the field, the camera that captured the play was even with the pass. In addition, the line at the top of the 18 yard box provided a nice point of reference. Roberts seemed offside.
Eight minutes later, Wigan winger Charles N’Zogbia was able to pull the goal back. From a dead ball, 20 yards out, N’Zogbia got his shot over the well, curling into the upper right hand corner for the Latics’ opening goal.
Now with 81 minutes left, Blackburn maintains their 2-1 lead.
