Saturday in the Premier League proved to be quite the exciting day. 24 goals were scored across seven matches in England’s top flight while a few games turned out to be gems.
English Premier League Final Update: Manchester United Grab Late Winner, Sunderland Rebound
Here’s a quick final round-up:
Manchester United 2-1 Wolves - A Ji-Sung Park brace was enough (barely) to see United gain all three points at home to a determined Wolves side full of confidence. Wolves leveled the score 1-1 in the second half thanks to Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, but Paul Scholes entry into the match helped a stuttering United side who were missing a few first choice players.
Sunderland 2-0 Stoke City - Sunderland won at home in what must have been a huge sigh of relief to fans and players alike. Record signing Asamoah Gyan scored both goals, one early on and the other in the 86th to help Sunderland rebound after last weekend's disappointing Tyne-Wear derby.
Fulham 1-1 Aston Villa - Villa finally scored a goal after being held scoreless for some 380 minutes in the Premier League when Marc Albrighton found the net in the 41st. The rest of the match played out with a very young Villa side attempting to hold their lead. Fulham found the equalizer through Brede Hangeland in stoppage time to snatch the three points away from Aston Villa who need a win under Gerard Houllier.
Blackpool 2-2 Everton - Away to Blackpool, Everton could only manage a hard fought (but exciting) draw as the Seasiders continue their decent start to their first Premier League season. Goals from Tim Cahill and Seamus Coleman for Everton and Neal Eardley and David Vaughan for Blackpool meant both sides shared a point.
Blackburn 2-1 Wigan - Was this the result that puts Roberto Martinez under serious pressure at Wigan? Very likely, but Sam Allardyce's men put in a fine performance to earn a much needed three points. Up one in the 58th through Morten Gamst Pederson, Blackburn doubled their lead less than 10 minutes later through Jason Roberts all before Charles N'Zogbia pulled a consolation goal back for Wigan in the 74th.
Birmingham City 2-2 West Ham - Bottom of the table West Ham remain just there as although they seem to be improving slowly, failed to gain three points at Birmingham City. The draw for City marks their second in as many weeks while it seems West Ham are destined to fight relegation all season.
