Birmingham City has not played well, and while they should be remiss if they don't get three from West Ham United, they'll be happy with one if they can hold on at St. Andrew's. With the Hammers having been up two goals at one point in the second half, Alex McLeish's side showed relief when Liam Ridgewell put home a rebound in the 73rd minute, pulling the Blues even, 2-2.
Birmingham City 2-2 West Ham United: Liam Ridgewell Put Back Pulls Brum Even
Part of the responsibility for the goal has to fall on Robert Green, who has to be question on for Birmingham scores. Was he late off his line getting to Nicola Zigic's pass to Cameron Jerome? Debatable. Could he have done more with the direct kick that ended up in the rebound, put home by Ridgewell. Probably. Green punched the ball directly in front of him, leading to an easy finish from eight yards out.
If West Ham misses out on three, Green will have to shoulder much of the blame, but seeing how Birmingham responded to being two down, you can’t help but wonder what this match would have looked like if the Blues hadn’t played so conservatively at the onset.
