Major League Soccer Playoffs, Leg 2: Robbie Rogers Gives Crew First Lead
Rogers, dubbed Wonder Boy during the Telefutura broadcast, was sent free on a through ball, fought off a defender and slotted the ball past Matt Pickens.
Rogers — a player much has been expected of, but who has rarely delivered — nearly scored earlier, but had his shot cleared off the goalline by a sliding Marvell Wynne.
Up until the goal, the second half had been relatively uneventful.
Conor Casey, Shaun Francis and Brian Carroll have all received yellow cards in what has so far been a relatively uneventful second half. Both teams appear to have tightened up their defenses, although the Rapids have gotten the better of the limited opportunities as the score remains tied on aggregate.
Jason Garey has been substituted in for Andres Mendoza in the 65th minute, a decision that seems more borne out of Mendoza’s nursing of an injury that anything tactical. Mendoza had been one of the game’s strong players, but had spent some time on the sidelines with an apparent hamstring injury.
