The game tightened up considerably in the first overtime. Neither team had many opportunities as the two sides seemed content to wait for the other to make a mistake.

The best chance of the overtime came on a Steven Lenhart shot in which he was able to get ahead of his mark just outside the six-yard box. But Rapids goalkeeper Matt Pickens was able to deflect the ball over the goal.
Shaun Francis and Guillermo Barros Schelotto have both needed medical attention, going down with what appear to be cramps. Both players were able to remain in the match and both teams have already used all their substitutes.
The last time the Rapids advanced out of the first round, they did so in a similar situation. A late goal allowed them to get to overtime against FC Dallas in 2006 and they eventually won in a penalty shootout.
The game has entered stoppage time of the overtime period and appears to be headed for a shootout, which would be the first of the 2010 season.
