Sunderland is already thin in central defense, playing without Michael Turner and Titus Bramble until the new year. Now, Anton Ferdinand has apparently injured his left hamstring, grabbing for the leg in the ninth minute at Craven Cottage after kicking a ball out of play. While the central defender attempted to play-on for a while, Ferdinand was on the ground within minutes.
Fulham Vs. Sunderland: Anton Ferdinand Out With Hamstring Injury
Ahmed El-Mohamady has been brought on the 11th minute. The Egyptian will play right back, forcing Manchester City loanee Nedum Onouha into central defense, along side John Mensah.
This will be Sunderland's third match without their first choice central defense pairing, with both Turner and Bramble struggling with knee problems. In their first match without the duo, the Black Cats gave up three goals at the Molineux, losing to 19th place Wolverhampton Wanderers. Last week Sunderland improved, keeping a clean sheet at home against West Ham United.
Today, the match is still scoreless, with neither team meaningfully threatening. Now in the 14th minute, the match is still even, 0-0.
