Yaya Toure looked to have bagged a brace for Manchester City as the Citizens attempt to go level with Arsenal for top spot in the Premier League, if only for a day or two. In a tight second half largely devoid of much quality or viable chances for either side, Toure helped to double City's lead when he was able to take on James Tomkins at pace and ping a shot first off of Robert Green's near post, then off the back of Green himself and in for City's second of the day.
West Ham Vs. Manchester City: Yaya Toure Forces Robert Green Into Own Goal, Adam Johnson Adds Third
The goal has been awarded to Green as an own goal which has robbed Toure of a deserved brace, the midfielder has been brilliant on the day and has placed his stamp on the match so emphatically with his forward runs and movement to create chances for City. With talisman Carlos Tevez missing out due to suspension, Toure has stepped in to fill the Captain's shoes in what is turning out to be a comfortable away win at West Ham.
As the match entered into its last ten minutes, Adam Johnson has scored a third for Manchester City. While West Ham boss Avram Grant has placed five attack-minded players on the pitch, City were able to nick a third when David Silva found Adam Johnson with a perfect ball into space. Johnson gathered the food and drink and rounded Robert Green to slot home City's third of the match.
In the 89th, James Tomkins has pulled one back for West Ham to make the score 3-1 after he won a header from a corner and found the back of the net. The goal will be welcomed, but will only be a small bit of consolation as West Ham stay bottom of the league. With the three points gained, City are now level with Arsenal on points for top spot as Arsenal await their trip to Old Trafford on Monday for a top of the table showdown.
