West Brom has cut Aston Villa's lead in half, and with four minutes of stoppage time shown at Villa Park, the Baggies have a chance to salvage a result in their derby. Phil Scharner, heading home a corner kick, has scored West Brom's first goal of the day, pulling the visitors within one, 2-1.
Aston Villa Vs. West Brom: In 90th Minute, Phil Scharner Pulls Baggies Within One
The goal came from a corner kick, an out-swinging from Chris Brunt, take from the left of goal. Scharner was the only player to rise for the ball and, from 14 yards from goal, powered a ball down toward Brad Friedel's right post. Nigel Reo Coker was supposed to be at that post but had come off it as Brunt's ball went toward the right side of the box. The resulting space gave Scharner's shot enough room to get in despite a last second, right-footed lunge from Reo Coker.
There’s now only one minute left at Villa Park. Gerard Houllier and Villa are trying to hang on to a much needed three points.
