West Ham 1-3 Manchester City: Yaya Touré should have been credited with a hat-trick, though the midfielder's second goal has initially gone down as an own goal for Robert Green. For City, the overall results are the same. While the performance may not have been as inspiring as last week's 1-0 over Bolton, the result was ultimately better, a 3-1, road win over West Ham, who stay bottom of the table. Manchester City is joint top with Arsenal, with 32 points.
English Premier League Saturday Wrap-up, Early Matches
Stoke City 0-1 Blackpool: An early second half goal from DJ Campbell was the difference, with Stoke threatening with a Matthew Etherington direct kick (off the cross bar) and a corner kick chance that was saved by Richard Kingson. Ultimately it was a deserved win for Blackpool, who looked the more dangerous side overall. Their win takes them to ninth place. Stoke sits 11th.
Fulham 0-0 Sunderland: While the first half was both boring and evenly played, the second half was all Fulham, They put 12 shots on goal in the second half, five of which came off the foot of Clint Dempsey. Simon Mignolet, however, was not beaten, and while the Black Cats could only muster two attempts of their own, they take a point out of Craven Cottage. These teams have now combined for two goals in their last five meetings. For Fulham, this is their 10th draw in 17 matches, the reason they stay in 17th place.
Aston Villa 2-1 West Bromwich Albion: After a slow start the hinted Brom was good for a result, Villa was given a boost by a Stewart Downing goal, taking a 1-0 lead into half time. Emile Heskey doubled the lead late, leaving Phil Scharner's goal as consolation in a 2-1 win over the Baggies. The day's star was winger Marc Albrighton, assisting on each of this team's goals.
Everton 0-0 Wigan Athletic: Everton was the better side for parts of this match, but there was large swathes where Wigan looked very comfortable, something a team with the worst goal difference in the league should not be when they're visiting your ground. Everton continues to look inept in the final third, and while Marouane Fellaini nearly headed home a goal just past the hour mark, the Toffees did little to justify three points. They stay on 18, two points above Wigan, who still sit 18th after the draw.
