Aston Villa defender James Collins apparently decided that climbing on top of Florent Malouda would be a wise start to the 22nd minute. Frank Lampard stepped up to take his first penalty since the West Ham game, when he was obviously struggling with groin injury, and sent his shot in hard and low. Brad Friedel chose correctly but there was nothing he could do to save it.

While Villa have been attacking well, this is also a team that tends to fall apart after the first goal scored against them. To have it come so early at the Bridge likely does not bode well for the visitors. Yet with Branislav Ivanovic out with suspension, and Chelsea using both Paulo Ferreira and Jeffrey Bruma in their back line, there could still be a chance for Villa to find at least a point-that is, if none of their four players already issued yellow cards gets sent off for the remainder of the match.
