Moments after John Terry had given Chelsea what looked like a dramatic victory, Aston Villa reclaimed a point. Ciaran Clark's header from six yards beat Petr Cech low and to his left, leaving the sides drawn 3-3 at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea Vs. Aston Villa: Ciaran Clark Scores Stoppage Time Equalizer For Villans
The goal came as Chelsea, trying to secure their newly earned lead, saw Marc Albrighton on the ball 25 yards out, to the left of goal. The Villa winger, having just come on for Gabriel Agbonlahor, moved around one charging defender before curling a cross to the far post. Clark came in unmarked from Cech's left, for a simple header, equalizing for Villa.
The goal was so easy that the immediate reaction was to look for offside, though it was clearly a good goal. Coming from the right, Clark would normally be marked by Ashley Cole or John Terry, but with Terry occupied by Emile Heskey and Cole elsewhere, the Villa defender was allowed to play hero, evening the score at three.
The draw leaves Chelsea in fifth place, having been passed by Spurs for what would be the last Champions League spot. VIlla’s points give them some, but not much, reprieve from relegation worries, with two points now separating the Villans from 18th place.
