When news of Chelsea's Fernando Torres bid broke earlier this week, it sounded like a complete lark - a why not, they may be asking in the Chelsea boardroom. We're shelling out this money for David Luiz, and that looks like it might be falling through. Why not ask Liverpool about Torres? We may have a need, come summer, and it's not as if he wouldn't help now.
Fernando Torres Asks Liverpool To Enter Negotiations With Chelsea Over Potential Move To Stamford Bridge
Now things have gotten much more serious. The Guardian reports that Fernando Torres, stopping just short of handing in a formal transfer request, has asked Liverpool to talk to Chelsea, hinting that the striker known for his loyalty - both to Atlético Madrid and Anfield - may have had enough. While Liverpool is said to have rejected the Blues’ initial £35 million bid, they have not been able to prevent the striker’s head from being turned.
Now comes word that Liverpool have secured Luis Suarez, and although Red dreams ran rich with thoughts of the tandem, now the Uruguayan looks like cover, his final price possibly agreed in part because of Liverpool's impending Chelsea money. That's pure speculation, as is most things transfer related, but with news that Torres is both being bid upon and asking those bids to be entertained, El Niño is as close to an Anfield exit as he's ever been.
