    It really does seem as though West Ham are pinning their hopes on this one acquisition, which is somewhat terrifying if you’re a fan who happens to have seen Keane play against reasonable competition in the last two seasons (i.e not in the Scottish Premier League, where he enjoyed a successful loan spell with Celtc last season). Kevin points out just how much money could be saved if Keane does end up going to Upton Park permanently at the end of this deal.

    Unless my maths is totally wrong, a year and a half of Keane’s wages at £65,000 per week totals more than £5M. Combine that with the reported transfer fee and Spurs may have well over £10M as a result of West Ham’s lapse in judgement.

    Take a moment to savour that conversation. Imagine the perplexed look creeping across Daniel Levy’s face as he’s asked whether he’d be willing to part with any of his world class strikers. Picture the furrows on his brow as he tries to work out whether he’s being prank-called. Share in his joy as he realises, slowly, that West Ham are serious.

    Robbie Keane is not world class. Robbie Keane at his peak, was once a good striker. But he was never any more than that and he is now some way away from said peak. Spurs are dying for quality striking options up front and yet he still can’t get a game at White Hart Lane, which speaks volumes about his performance whenever he’s bribed Redknapp into letting him come on. Robbie Keane is bad, and West Ham are making a mistake.
