Jozy Altidore Joining Turkey’s Bursaspor On Six-Month Loan

Altidore had previously been reported as going to La Liga’s Levante by the AP, but that was later revealed to be based on a false report by a fake English-language La Liga Twitter account. Altidore’s agent had mentioned that there was interest from a Turkish team, which was apparently Bursaspor.

Bursaspor made the Champions League this year, but was eliminated in group play after claiming just one point and post a -14 goal difference in six matches. The only point they claimed was a scoreless tie against Rangers.

Levante is currently in a battle against relegation, currently sitting 18th in La Liga’s table, three points shy of 17th. The Grenotes are, ironically, one of the smaller clubs in Valencia and have bounced between the top two divisions recently. They earned promotion this year and have been relegated twice since 2004-05.

Altidore was left off the gameday roster on Sunday, and has only played sporadically in La Liga matches. He has scored a pair of goals in Copa Del Rey matches, but his prospect of regular playing time on a relatively stacked team seems unlikely.

The 21-year-old has been linked to teams all over the globe from Spain (Gijón, Levante and Málaga) to Turkey (Bursaspor) to Italy (Bari). His agent also told MLSsoccer.com that he’s getting interest from teams in the Netherlands and England.
