Jozy Altidore Joins La Liga’s Levante On Loan From Villarreal
Jozy Altidore will be changing teams, after all, but he won't have to go far. The United States striker will be joining Levante on a loan from Villarreal, according to an AP report. Although not considered rivals, Levante and Villarreal are both in the area of Valencia and are about an hour apart.
Levante is currently in a battle against relegation, currently sitting 18th in La Liga’s table, three points shy of 17th. The Grenotes are, ironically, one of the smaller clubs in Valencia and have bounced between the top two divisions recently. They earned promotion this year and have been relegated twice since 2004-05.
The move could be a positive for Altidore, though, as he has been struggling to get into the regular rotation at Villarreal, which currently sits third and is fighting for a spot in Champions League. Altidore has only appeared in three La Liga matches, but has scored twice in 11 total appearances across all competitions. Levante could use a scorer to supplement Felipe Caicedo, whose eight goals account for more than a third of Levante’s 22 goals. Levanted also acquired Altidore’s Villarreal teammate Jefferson Montero.
