Two goals from Frederic Kanoute and one from Luis Fabiano were enough to see Sevilla past Real Sociedad in an entertaining match at Anoeta. Diego Rivas put Sociedad ahead with a superb curling effort, but Kanoute replied for the visitors almost immediately with a volley two minutes later. Joseba Llorente then took advantage of some hesitant positioning from keeper Andres Palop to fire in his teams second, as Real Sociedad took a 2-1 lead into the break.
Real Sociedad Vs Sevilla: Kanoute and Luis Fabiano Lead Sevilla To Victory In Anoeta
The second half saw Gregorio ring the changes, bringing on Javi Vargas and Alvaro Negredo and both were key to Sevillas fightback. Javi Vargas was inspirational in the Sevilla goal, repelling everything that came his way, while Negredo provided the assists for Luis Fabianos close range striker and Frederic Kanoutes second, which turned out to be the winner.
They say fortune favours the brave, and Gregorio Manzano certainly profited from some bold tactics, switching to a 4-3-3 away from the Sanchez Pizjuan while trailing to a side notoriously strong infront of their vocal home support. Real Sociedad played their part in an engrossing encounter, with the mercurial Xabi Prieto looking as classy as ever on the right, but hesitancy at the back cost them dear, with both of Sevillas goals in the second half helped out by some poor defending.
So after a forgettable 2010, that’s two wins out of two for Sevilla so far in 2011. And with Jesus Navas working his way back to full fitness, the future is suddenly looking brighter for the Andalusians as they find themselves only one point off the European spots as things stand.
Here we move onto the Riazor as Barcelona take on Deportivo La Coruña. Can Guardiola and his team put serious pressure on Real Madrid ahead of their match at home against Villarreal?
