Just a few weeks ago, DC United seemed destined for the playoffs. They were managing to remain within striking distance of the No. 10 spot despite having at least a couple games in hand on most of their competition. But four straight losses and just one win in their past seven matches have quite literally eliminated any of their margin for error.
DC United Hopes To Avoid Fourth Straight Playoff-Less Season - Black And Red United
DC United finds themselves with a pair of must-win games or else it will miss the playoffs for a franchise record fourth-straight year. The first of those is on Wednesday. Black and Red United explains the situation:
Even if DC does win, we'll also need help tomorrow night from Philadelphia. And then we'll have to win again Saturday, over a Sporting Kansas City side that is my current pick to make the MLS Cup final out of the east. If New York ties the Union tomorrow, we'll also have had to beat Portland and the Sporks by a combined 7 goals (or even 8, if NY-Philly is a high-scoring draw). We're the team that needs a miracle, not Portland.
