Apparently whining about playing time pays off because Charlie Davies is back in the DC United starting lineup. He's joined by the rest of the United first choice team, minus the injured Chris Pontius of course, who DC could really use right now as they chase the final playoff spot. Without a win tonight they will be eliminated from the postseason, but the Portland Timbers are right in the thick of the chase for that playoff spot too.
D.C. United Vs. Portland Timbers Live, 2011 MLS: Lineups
While DC is five points out of 10th place, Portland is just three points out. Both have two matches left compared to 10th place New York's one so they're alive, but because the Red Bulls will almost certainly have the edge in goal difference, three points tonight are crucial. In search of that, Portland also goes with a first choice starting lineup, except John Spencer has chosen not to start Jorge Perlaza for reasons only he could explain.
DC United (4-4-2): Bill Hamid; Chris Korb, Ethan White, Brandon McDonald, Daniel Woolard; Andy Najar, Perry Kitchen, Dwayne De Rosario, Santino Quaranta; Josh Wolff, Charlie Davies
Portland Timbers (4-4-2): Troy Perkins; Lovel Palmer, Eric Brunner, Mamadou 'Futty' Dano, Rodney Wallace; Eric Alexander, Jack Jewsbury, James Marcelin, Diego Chara; Kenny Cooper, Kalif Alhassan
