Sao Paulo are on their way to a quarterfinal birth in the 2011 Copa Sudamericana, thanks to their 1-0 home win over Libertad in the first leg of their Round of 16 tie. The Paraguayan side looked to get a draw on the road and try their chances at home, and it looked for 75 minutes like they were going to be able to pull it off. However, Brazilian World Cup veteran and former Sevilla star Luis Fabiano was able to score in the 76th minute, giving his team a massive advantage heading into the second leg.
Copa Sudamericana 2011, Sao Paulo Vs. Libertad: Full Time, Luis Fabiano Scores Winner
Fabiano is yet to score for his team in the Brasileirao, but perhaps he’ll begin to find his form domestically after finally getting on the scoreboard for his new club. Fabiano and his strike partner Dagoberto, who assisted on his goal, combined well all night and could have easily had more than one goal.
Sao Paulo are still without star youngster Lucas and opted to start youngster Casemiro on the bench once again. SPFC is sinking quickly in the Brasileirao, and needs to get their young stars fit and in form shortly to have a chance to finish high in that competition and win the Copa Sudamericana.
