Bayer Leverkusen have announced via their website that goalkeeper Rene Adler has finally returned to the pitch. The 26 year old shot stopper was injured in a preseason fixture against Red Bull Salzburg. He had surgery on his right knee before the season started.
Rene Adler Injury Update: Back To Training
The return of Adler in goal would be welcomed by manager Robin Dutt. Bernd Leno, a 19 year old on loan from Stuttgart, has been absolutely brilliant at times this season, but the ability to get a goalkeeper of Adler’s skill and experience back in the net could be crucial for the club that has plans on getting out of their group in the Champions League and improving their league position (currently 9th).
The training session consisted of Adler, goalkeeper coach Rüdiger Vollborn, and former Leverkusen goalkeeper (and current free agent) Benedikt Fernandez. If you were interested in seeing the kind of jumping ability Adler has already on his surgically repaired knee, you can head right over to the club’s official website and watch “Bayer 04 TV” here. There is a 10 second clip of Adler in training from :10 through :20.
