With their solid position in the Mexican Primera and their history of conservative play in rivalry matches, many tipped Chivas Guadalajara to play for a draw against Club America in the Super Clasico. Instead, they’ve come to Estadio Azteca to win, and they’re tearing apart the America defense. ‘Chucho’ Christian Benitez has a goal for the Super Aguilas, who cannot afford to lose this match, but Chivas have three and lead 3-1 at halftime.
Club America Vs. Chivas Guadalajara Live, 2011 Super Clasico: Halftime Score, Goats Lead 3-1
Antonio Gallardo scored the opener just six minutes into the match, getting onto the end of a cross from Marco Fabian on a late run from midfield. Central defender Aquivaldo Mosquera failed to pick him up, leaving an easy header. Chucho found the equalizer quickly, though, heading in a Daniel Montenegro free kick in the 13th minute.
Then, Chivas turned the tables and scored two in quick succession. Marco Fabian netted in the 18th minute, tapping in a rebound off of a corner kick, then ‘Cubo’ Erick Torres scored on a powerful shot just over one minute later, putting Chivas up 3-1 after 20 minutes.
America pressed hard for a goal at the end of the half, but Chivas goalkeeper Luis Michel made two absolutely stunning saves to keep his team ahead by two. It’s actually been a more even game than the scoreboard suggests, with the difference being goalkeeping. Michel has been brilliant, while Armando Navarrete could have done better on both the Fabian and Torres goals for America.
