Bayern Munich cruised to an easy 4-0 victory over Nürnberg in front of a sold out Allianz Arena to maintain their position on top of the Bundesliga.
Bayern Munich Vs. FC Nürnberg, 2011 Bundesliga: Bayern Cruises In Bavarian Derby
Just two minutes in the match, Holger Badstuber played a long ball out of the back to Bastian Schweinsteiger along the right flank. Schweinsteiger played a perfect cross into the middle to Mario Gomez, and his header found the back of the net.
Bayern would find the back of the net two more times in the first half from Schweinsteiger and Franck Ribery. Gomez nearly found the net early in the second half after he beat Alexander Stephan, but Philipp Wollscheid made a goal line clearance to keep it at three. It wouldn't last for long, and Gomez would find the net again with an easy tap-in.
The match was never in question, and Manuel Neuer was never tested in the Bayern net. It was a fantastic performance all around for those in the Bayern shirt, and they could have scored a few more goals.
Slight concern for Bayern late in the match when Schweinsteiger took a knock to his calf. It remains to be seen on his status for Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Napoli.
