Paolo Guerrero scored a goal in the 65th minute to earn a point for 10-man Hamburg.
Hamburg Vs. Kaiserslautern, 2011 Bundesliga: Guerrero Rescues Point For 10-Man Hamburg
Hamburg was reduced to ten men when Slobodan Rajkovic was shown a red card after his intentional elbow to the face of Christian Tiffert. Kaiserslautern capitalized on their advantage in the 38th minute when Konstantinos Fortounis laid back a cross from Olcay Sahan to Pierre De Wit. The midfielder put a wonderful shot into the roof of the net to give the visitors the lead.
Hamburg thought they equalized in the 58th minute, but the referee judged Guerrero to have handled the ball before he scored. He would find his goal just a few minutes later when he headed in Gokhan Tore’s cross.
Kaiserslautern thought they had a winner with only eight minutes remaining, but Mathias Abel saw his header bang off of the crossbar.
Even with the point, Hamburg remain in the relegation zone. However, the good news is that they’re in 16th place instead of 17th place this week.
