Wolfsburg came back from two separate deficits on Saturday, but they were unable to find that magic for the third time. Hertha are taking all three points from Wolfsburg and running back to the capital.
VfL Wolfsburg Vs. Hertha Berlin, 2011 Bundesliga: Wolfsburg Comes Back Twice And Still Loses
Pierre-Michel Lasogga scored in the 85th minute to finally put away a Wolfsburg team that wouldn’t go away and give Hertha a 3-2 victory.
The loss is now Wolfsburg’s 6th of the campaign. Only Freiburg has more losses at this point. The win moves Hertha into 10th, and they’re looking good for my preseason prediction for them to stay up this season.
Raffael started the scoring off beating Diego Benaglio to his far post in the 27th minute. Shortly after that Mario Mandzukic redirected a pass from Ashkan Dejagah into the net to pull Wolfsburg level.
Hertha were awarded a penalty just a few minutes after when Benaglio brought down Lasogga in the area. Levan Kobiashvili stepped to the spot and put it past Benaglio to give Hertha the lead back.
Wolfsburg battled back but it wasn’t until the 84th minute that they found their second equalizer of the day when a free kick by Marcel Schäfer found it’s way past the wall and into the net.
The level scored lasted only 1 minute until Lasogga finished a cross from Adrian Ramos from inside the six yard box and send the visiting fans into joyous eruption.
