Antoine Kombouare won Paris Saint-Germain’s final game before the Ligue 1 winter break, but it wasn’t enough to save his job. Very few managers have been canned while they’re at the top of the table, but that’s exactly what happened shortly after PSG’s win over St. Etienne. With a number of big-name managers available and money to burn, the Qatar Investment Authority fired they former PSG manager, despite his solid job performance. Sooner rather than later, Carlo Ancelotti is expected to be named as his successor.

Ancelotti was most recently the manager at Chelsea, who he led to a Premier League - FA Cup double in the 2009-10 season. His results were less impressive last season, and he was sacked. Like Kombouare, his job performance was not particularly poor when he was let go.

He was more or less fired for not immediately bringing Chelsea to success in the UEFA Champions League. As PSG did not even qualify for the tournament last season, his new bosses will probably be slightly more forgiving if he fails to win that tournament over the next two years. His contract is rumored to be a two and a half year deal, and it will make him the highest paid manager in France.
