Teal Bunbury Injury Update: Recovery Now Pegged At 4-6 Weeks

It now looks like Teal Bunbury will be out 4-6 weeks after he partially dislocated his elbow during a preseason match with the Houston Dynamo on Tuesday. The initial reports suggested he would miss 2-4 weeks. The new diagnosis would make his return for Sporting Kansas City's first game of the year on March 19 more of a longshot.

Bunbury, who was injured during a collision with Houston's Andrew Hainault, was coming into the season with sky-high expectations. After a rookie campaign in which he scored five goals in just 13 starts (26 appearances), he made two appearances with the United States national team, scored his first international goal and even trialed with Stoke City of the English Premier League.

Back in Kansas City, he was expected to compete for a starting role in Peter Vermes’ 4-3-3 configuration. This would seem to eliminate any chances of him beginning the season as a starter.
