Notts County, lowly League One visitors to the richest team in all the world, have made a very good showing of themselves, starting on the front put, putting major pressure on Manchester City, and responding very well to going a goal behind. However, while they've come agonisingly close to scoring they haven't actually managed it yet. Karl Hawley's beautiful curling effort that crashed off Joe Hart's left post was the pick of the lot, and with any justice would have given the visitors an early lead, but it wasn't to be and it's City that go into the interval up 1-0.

Patrick Vieira converted a David Silva corner at the near post, with a deflection taking the ball past Stuart Nelson in the County net. There was a handball in the process, but since it was off a defender it's unlikely that County have much argument to have the goal disallowed. Nelson's done a fie job in goal, stopping some interesting efforts from Yaya Toure and Edin Dzeko, but there was nothing he could have done about City's opener. Oh, and Mario Balotelli is sulking after being denied a (legitimate) penalty, and has managed to get himself booked by taking it out on the opposition for no apparent reason. What else is new?
