In possibly the most important league game of Chelsea's season, the home side showed their class late, putting two goals past a very defensive Manchester City and earning a thoroughly deserved win to go to third in the table, just four points behind Arsenal in second. Centre back David Luiz opened the scoring when he headed home a 78th minute Didier Drogba free kick, and Ramires sealed the points with a wonderful solo effort in stoppage time.
Chelsea FC Vs. Manchester City: David Luiz And Ramires Give Hosts 2-0 Win
It was a desperately disappointing showing from City, who managed just one shot on goal all match. Without the talismanic figure of Carlos Tevez to lead the line and James Milner a shadow of his former self, David Silva's magic went absolutely nowhere. The visitors fought most of the match in a battling rearguard action, and although Nigel De Jong and Vincent Kompany managed to keep Chelsea off the scoresheet for more of the match, their fine work was simply delaying the inevitable.
That's Chelsea maybe back into the title race then, with Manchester City now looking at a dogfight with Tottenham Hotspur for fourth place.
