My goodness that is an awful goal to concede. When Charlie Adam won possession in the centre circle and was subsequently fouled, it didn’t look as though there’d be any particular danger for the home side. Less than ten seconds later, Wigan had put the ball past Matthew Gilks. Whoops.
Blackpool Vs. Wigan Athletic: Hugo Rodallega Gives Wigan Early Lead
It's generally considered to be a foolish idea to give the ball straight to an opposition striker from a free kick, but Blackpool did just that, threading the ball straight to a Wigan shirt. Charles N'Zogbia promptly found Hugo Rodallega making a forward run, leaving him with just Craig Cathcart to beat before going one on one with Gilks. Then Cathcart decided to fall over, giving the Colombian forward an easy run forward, and Wigan's all time Premier League leading scorer made no mistake.
A result for either team here would be huge in the relegation battle, and Blackpool have just shot themselves in the foot. They absolutely need a win here, but now they’re just looking shell-shocked.
