Wigan Athletic gave their slim hopes of surviving the drop a huge boost with an impressive victory over Blackpool at Bloomfield Road, seeing them - for now - safely out of the relegation spots at their hosts' expense. For the visitors, the game started perfectly when a series of Blackpool errors gifted Hugo Rodellega with a goal in the first few minutes, and then after soaking up Tangerine pressure for much of the first half struck again in stoppage time through the nimble feet of Charles N'Zogbia, who danced through the home defence to roll a shot past Matthew Gilks in goal.

For Ian Holloway's side, worse was to come in the second half. Despite a triple substitution designed to get them back into the game, the home side went further behind thanks to a deflected Mohamed Diame strike in the 67th minute (it eventually went down as a Neil Eardley own goal), and a late consolation from D.J. Campbell was just that. Just months after being in the top ten, Blackpool now find themselves in 18th place, and they'll have to rebound fast from this in order to have a hope of avoiding relegation. Wigan, meanwhile, somehow vault from 20th to 17th in one fell swoop.
