It took 83 minutes for AC Milan to score a goal against Brescia, but what a vital goal it was. The 1-0 victory puts Milan eight points ahead of rivals Inter Milan and nine above free-falling Napoli, almost assuring the rossoneri of the title. Meanwhile, that same goal, the goal from Robinho, may have also condemned Brescia to Serie B, where they sit five points behind Lecce and Sampdoria.
Brescia Vs. AC Milan: Robinho Strike Gives Visitors The Win, Possibly The Title
Much of the match reflected the desperation of both sides: Brescia determined to get at least a point against the league leaders, Milan anxious to lock up the scudetto. Players hacked away at one another and, at one point, a Brescia defender even divested Kevin-Prince Boateng of his kit. Shots were skyed, were sent into the netting, rolled agonizingly past the posts.
Despite the ever-desperate attempts from Antonio Cassano, who even managed to miss a free header, it was Robinho, who’d also already missed something like 100 chances, that put the ball in the net. A long pass upfield landed with Cassano, who’d been kept onside by Francesco Bega. Cassano slotted the ball over to Robinho, who had a one on one with Brescia keeper Michele Arcari. There was nothing Acari could do as the Brazilian danced around him to give Milan the goal they so desperately needed.
Alessandro Diamanti very nearly put Brescia back on level terms in the 88th, but Christian Abbiati managed a tremendous save to keep Milan ahead. The Milan attack might want to take their keeper out for a drink today, as he may just have won them a pretty plaque for their wall.
