That’s this quarter-final done and dusted, but that’s a wonderful goal to kill a tie with. After several close chances were either denied by Heurelhio Gomes (Emmanuel Adebayor, Xabi Alonso) or squandered (Mesut Ozil), Angel di Maria decided that enough was enough. The Argentine winger picked up the ball on the edge of the area, took a touch, and walloped the ball into Gomes’ goal, coming disturbingly close to tearing a hole in the side netting in the process. That’s a fitting goal to win any game, and it’s definitely put Tottenham’s hopes way out of reach.
Real Madrid Vs. Tottenham Hotspur, 2011 UEFA Champions League: Maginificent Angel Di Maria Goal Makes It 3-0
Jose Mourinho has made two substitutions in response to going up by three. Off comes Adebayor, who scored the first two, to be replaced by Gonzalo Higuain - the striker received a massive cheer from the home fans when he came on, and di Maria was replaced by Brazilian Kaka, possibly just to give the crowd another chance to salute that goal.
