Just as it seemed that Saprissa was climbing back into their CONCACAF Champions League semifinal with Real Salt Lake, Jamison Olave all but destroyed those hopes. The RSL defender smashed home a waste-high volley that had ricocheted off a Saprissa defender and gave his team a 3-1 aggregate goal lead in the 61st minute. With the away-goal rule in effect, Saprissa will need to score at least three more goals in order to advance to the finals.

The goal-scoring sequence was started on a corner kick by Fabian Espindola. RSL defender Nat Borchers was able to get a solid header on it and the ball hit off the shoulder of a Saprissa defender and right back to Olave, who took the ball out of the air and struck it from about six yards out. The Saprissa crowd, which had just started to come back to life, fell silent as Olave celebrated with his hands cupped to his ears.
