The FA has announced that it will not publicly reveal the outcome of Wayne Rooney’s appeal against the severity of his two match ban for swearing down a camera during Manchester United’s game at Upton Park on Saturday. It will, however, disclose the results of the appeal to United themselves. Apparently, this is to ensure that there is no chance of the result of the appeal interfering with United’s Champions League quarter-final match against Chelsea, although that explanation doesn’t hold much weight upon closer examination.
FA Will Not Reveal Decision Over Wayne Rooney’s Appeal Until After Champions League Match
Why is it that Manchester United will be told while the public will not? If it’s to avoid overshadowing a huge Champions League game, ok, but why tell a team participating in that match then. Surely they’re more important to the play than, say, the media, on account of actually being the ones on the pitch. The rest of us will just have to wait until Thursday to find out whether or not Rooney will be eligible for United’s FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City on the 16th.
